About Dr. Matrix Fung
Dr. Matrix Fung was born and raised in Hong Kong, where he earned his medical degree from The University of Hong Kong. Following his graduation, he completed his general surgery residency and endocrine surgery fellowship training at Queen Mary Hospital. Dr. Fung currently serves as Clinical Assistant Professor and Chief of Endocrine Surgery in the Department of Surgery, School of Clinical Medicine, at the LKS Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong.
Dr. Fung’s clinical practice encompasses the full spectrum of endocrine surgery, including thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal disorders. He has a special interest in minimally invasive procedures, particularly radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and microwave ablation (MWA) for both benign and malignant thyroid nodules.
His research centers on integrating artificial intelligence into thyroid cancer management, advancing minimally invasive ablative therapies, leading population-wide studies on primary hyperparathyroidism, and evaluating near-infrared autofluorescence for parathyroid identification and preservation. Dedicated to advancing surgical care, Dr. Fung's academic endeavors focus on pioneering novel thyroid ablation techniques and developing molecular assays to refine the diagnosis and management of thyroid nodules. He serves as a Council Member of the Asian Surgical Association and holds active memberships in the Hong Kong, Asian, and International Associations of Endocrine Surgeons, as well as the North American Society of Interventional Thyroidology (NASIT).
Outside of work, Dr Fung is a proud father of two who enjoys music-making and shares a deep passion for playing the violin.

I have long been inspired by AAES’ commitment to high-quality scientific research and its genuinely diverse, embracing global community. By becoming an active international corresponding member, I hope to engage with leading experts, exchange clinical insights, and bridge practice nuances between regions. Ultimately, I look forward to contributing a distinct Asian perspective to the society’s academic discourse and collaborative initiatives, helping to enrich our collective understanding of endocrine surgical care worldwide.
