About Guillermo Ponce de León Ballesteros
Dr. Guillermo Ponce de Leon Ballesteros is a general, endocrine and metabolic-bariatric surgeon from Morelia, Mexico. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Universidad La Salle in Mexico City. Dr. Ballesteros completed his General Surgery residency at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán (INCMNSZ) (2012-2017), where he also completed a fellowship in Endocrine Surgery (2017-2018).
To further expand his expertise in minimally invasive and metabolic surgery, he completed bariatric surgery fellowships at Mohak Hospital in Indore, India (2018), and at Centro Médico ABC in Mexico City (2019-2020). He is currently a Master’s in Science candidate at Universidad Anáhuac.
Dr. Ballesteros' academic interests focus on endocrine and metabolic-bariatric surgery. He has authored more than 40 indexed scientific publications and contributed to six book chapters in these fields.
Dr. Ballesteros currently practices at Hospital Star Médica and Hospital Ángeles in Morelia and Mexico City. His clinical practice includes a high-volume endocrine surgery program, performing more than 120 thyroidectomies and approximately 35–40 parathyroidectomies annually, in addition to minimally invasive adrenal surgery, and metabolic-bariatric surgery. He remains actively involved in clinical research, surgical education, and international collaborations aimed at improving outcomes in endocrine and metabolic-bariatric surgery.
What Do You Hope to Get Out of Your AAES Membership Experience?
My primary motivation for joining the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons is my commitment to providing the highest standard of care to my patients through continuous learning and academic excellence. I believe that remaining up to date with the latest evidence, innovations, and surgical techniques is essential for delivering the best possible outcomes.
I am also eager to benchmark my clinical and surgical outcomes against those of high-volume, internationally recognized endocrine surgery centers. This comparison will help me continuously evaluate and improve my practice while ensuring that my patients receive world-class care.
Beyond education, I value the opportunity to become part of a collaborative academic community. I hope to establish meaningful professional relationships with endocrine surgeons from around the world, participate in multicenter research initiatives, exchange ideas, and contribute to the advancement of endocrine surgery.
Through AAES membership, I look forward to gaining cutting-edge knowledge, fostering international collaborations, and growing as both a clinician and an academic surgeon while contributing to the mission of improving endocrine surgical care worldwide.
