The AAES has 8 membership levels based on the type of work you do or the level of your surgical career. Three member types are reviewed on an annual cycle, the rest are reviewed on an ongoing basis.

Applying for Membership: Medical Student, Resident/Fellow, Candidate, or Affiliate Provider
1. Review the current AAES Bylaws to ensure that you meet the criteria.
2. Identify and contact a Sponsor who is an Active, Allied, Corresponding, or Senior AAES Member, OR from your Surgery Residency Director or Department Chair.
3. Complete the appropriate Online Membership Application and upload all required documentation, see below.

Deadline to Apply: No deadline. Applications are reviewed and processed on an ongoing basis. All submitted documents must be written in English.

• Sponsor Letter (addressed to the AAES Membership Committee)
• Literature Contribution (optional)
Applying for Membership: Active, Corresponding or Allied Specialist:
1. Review the current AAES Bylaws to ensure that you meet the criteria.
2. Compile all of your required documents, see below.
3. Identify and contact three (3) Sponsors who are currently Active, Allied, Corresponding, or Senior AAES Members.
4. Pay the $100 Application Fee. Click here to pay the application fee.
5. Once you've paid the application fee, you'll receive 2 emails. One will be a payment confirmation and the other will be a confirmation email that contains instructions and a link to the online membership application.
6. Complete the online membership application form. Be sure to upload all required documents before submitting.
Deadline to Apply: The current deadline to apply is January 31, 2024. All required documentation must be submitted online or via email by this date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. All submitted documents must be written in English. To ensure your application is complete prior to the deadline, any materials not included in the online submission must be emailed ([email protected]) by February 01, 2024.

In addition to the required documents listed above, applicants must provide documentation of 2 of these 5 items:
1. Past peer-reviewed literature contribution in endocrine surgery diseases.
2. Provided ≥1 outreach or CME talk on an endocrine surgery disease topic to hospital, referring providers and/or local community in the last 1 year.
3. Attendance within the last 1 year at ≥1 annual meeting in another society that addresses endocrine surgery disease such as ATA, AACE, Endocrine Society, World Congress on Thyroid Cancer, SSO, LATS, or IAES. Submit CME documentation.
4. Successful completion of CME course specific to endocrine surgery disease totaling ≥4 category 1 AMA credits (examples include ACS Thyroid and Parathyroid Ultrasound Course, AACE Diagnostic Endocrine Neck Ultrasound course, Masters Course in Endocrine Surgery, institutional thyroid/parathyroid symposiums, etc).
5. Successful completion of AAES-accredited Endocrine Surgical Clinical Fellowship.
Complete applications received by January 31, 2024, will be reviewed by the Membership Committee and by AAES Council. The names of applicants recommended for election to membership will be voted upon at the AAES 2024 Annual Business Meeting in Dallas, TX. Applicants thusly elected to membership will be presented with certificates of AAES membership at the 2025 AAES Annual Meeting. Applications received after January 31, 2024, will be held and considered for the 2025 membership cycle.
