Objectives of the Program:

To train future leaders in the field of endocrine surgery by providing advanced training in the evaluation and treatment of endocrine surgical diseases

The fellow will participate in all phases of endocrine surgical care including initial evaluation, preoperative preparation, operative management, and postoperative follow up

The fellow will spend dedicated time gaining expertise in ultrasound, pathology/cytopathology, nuclear medicine, medical endocrinology, and endocrine genetics.

The fellow will be expected to participate in clinical research during the clinical fellowship year

For those fellows who are particularly interested in an academic career, the option of an additional year spent in research is available. This research year may be spent in basic science, outcomes research, surgical ethics research, or education research.

Opportunity to train with endocrine surgeons: Peter Angelos, MD, PhD; Edwin L. Kaplan, MD; and Xavier Keutgen, MD

Average Annual Case Volumes
300 thyroid operations
250 parathyroidectomies
50 Adrenalectomies
40 Neuroendocrine Tumors (resections, ablations, and enucleations)

Ultrasound experience for examination of the thyroid, parathyroids, lymph nodes, and guidance of FNA

Exposure to minimally invasive techniques including minimally
invasive video-assisted thyroidectomy

Exposure to transabdominal and retroperitoneal laparoscopic adrenalectomy

Participation in the Endocrine Surgery Research Program

Participation in combined endocrine/endocrine surgery conferences and endocrine tumor board.

International Medical Graduates:

An applicant to our fellowship program must be eligible to take the American Board of Surgery board exam.
