New Senior Author Sign-off Process:

Effective for the 2026 Meeting, AAES has implemented a new senior author sign-off process. All abstract submissions must designate a senior author who will be required to attest to the provided statements. Upon abstract submission, AAES will email all authors the required disclosure forms. Both the disclosures and the senior author attestation must be completed by November 3, 2025 11:59 pm PT. Please plan accordingly, as abstracts without a signed senior author attestation by the November 3, 2025 deadline will not be considered for review.

Important Reminders:

  • Abstracts will NOT be accepted after the submission deadline: November 1, 2025, 11:59 PM PST.
  • The 2026 AAES Annual Meeting will be an in-person event held in Lexington, Kentucky, USA. All presentations (podium and poster) will be given in person.
  • Only original research will be considered (must not have been previously presented, published, or under review for publication).
  • There is a 350-word limit for abstracts. One table or graphic is allowed and should provide meaningful information beyond that in the body of the abstract. Avoid including tables containing a large amount of uninterpreted data.
  • The abstract copy MUST include the following: Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
  • POSTER SPOTLIGHT SESSION: This year, we will highlight a number of the top scoring posters in a 'Poster Spotlight Session'. Posters selected for this session will be presented from the podium as part of the general assembly. More presentation details will be provided to those selected for this session. Posters may also be selected by the Program Committee for 'Poster Presentation' or 'Poster Display' as in the past. These categories remain the same. Poster presenters are not required to submit to SURGERY for publication.
  • NO reference to the authors or the institution should appear within the title or body of the abstract. If so, the abstract will automatically be rejected.
  • Please do not submit case reports. A call for Interesting Case submissions will open in December/January after the abstract submission has closed.
  • In accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), authors will be required to disclose all financial relationships with any companies they have had over the past 24 months. Omission or misrepresentation of financial relationships is academic dishonesty. Evidence of such that is discovered before, during, or after the AAES Meeting will lead to the removal of the abstract from the program and the published proceedings, referral to the Ethics Committee and AAES Council for punitive action up to and including a ban from presenting at future AAES Meetings. For more information on the Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education, please visit https://accme.org/rules/standards/.
  • For trainees wishing to compete in the trainee award competition, select ‘yes’ to answer the relevant question. Submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the Program Committee. The top abstracts will be selected for participation in the various competitions, and podium presentations will be scored during the scientific sessions. Abstracts selected for the competition will be denoted as such in the final program and trainees notified prior to the meeting.
  • Groups submitting abstracts should be aware that no author may present more than one oral podium presentation. If after abstract review and ranking, an author designated as the presenting author has two abstracts accepted for oral podium presentation, they will be asked to present the higher scoring abstract. At the determination of the Senior Author, a co-author who has made substantial contributions to the study can present the second accepted abstract as an oral podium presentation, however, the lower scoring abstract, regardless of the presenter’s status, will not be included as part of the trainee competition.
  • Abstracts accepted for podium presentation must submit a completed manuscript to SURGERY by February 1, 2026.If the required manuscript is not submitted, the presenting author and senior author are prohibited from presenting at AAES for three (3) years.
